Talk for Pint of Science 2026, Birmingham, UK.

## _Metallurgy in Birmingham: from Industrial Revolution to date_ Following this talk about what I work on and how it connects to the city itself, that reflection turned into a two‑part blog series, tracing metallurgy in Birmingham from the Industrial Revolution to modern research, from steam engines and jet turbines to experiments searching for dark matter. What stood out to me while writing is how consistent the underlying problem has been: how we design materials to enable systems to go further, under increasingly demanding conditions. This also reflects my own path in Birmingham: from studying turbine blade processing during my PhD, to developing radiopure copper-based alloys today. ### Part 1 — Metallurgy in Birmingham: the Industrial Revolution and its aura [Read here] ### Part 2 - Metallurgy in Birmingham: from power systems to dark matter here [Read here]
